Chrysalis Studios teams with Amy's Closet Non-Profit Boutique to benefit Domestic Violence victi

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Did you know that every 9 seconds a woman is beaten in the United States? More than 1 in 3 women and more than 1 in 4 men in the U.S. report experiencing rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Per the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the US. This adds up to more than 10 million victims every year. Most of these assaults will go unreported.

In addition, approximately 5 million children are exposed to domestic violence every year. These children are more likely to attempt suicide, abuse drugs and alcohol, run away from home, engage in teenage prostitution, and commit sexual assault crimes. Worldwide, men who were exposed to domestic violence as children are 3-4 times more likely to perpetrate intimate partner violence as adults.

Amy’s Closet is a non-profit boutique in Denver, NC and Lincolnton, NC, partnering with Lincoln County Coalition Against Domestic Violence to turn donated clothing and accessories into funding for Amy’s House (Lincoln County’s shelter for women & children who are survivors of domestic violence).

For years I have struggled with the dilemma of what to do with jewelry I choose not to sell in my shop {Chrysalis Studios} for various reasons (i.e. “seconds” {merchandise with minor imperfections}, discontinued items, and additional overstock). Instead of selling this merchandise on clearance for profit, I have decided to begin donating it to Amy’s Closet so that domestic violence victims can benefit from the sale of the items. I have begun donating a variety of crystal and ethically sourced real butterfly wing jewelry to Amy’s this month and will continue to do so quarterly / as needed by the store. 100% of the sale of all Chrysalis Studios jewelry sold at Amy’s Closet will go to the Amy’s House shelter for domestic abuse victims! The goal is to help Amy’s House move into a new chapter, with a larger and more modern facility that can help more victims.

These issues are personal to me as I have been the victim of criminal cyberstalking by a stranger. However, 60.8% of female stalking victims report being stalked by a current or former intimate partner. 19.3 million women and 5.1 million men in the United States have been stalked in their lifetime.
